UNDAE & ADUNA, a collection for the danish design brand MATER
Launched at the Salone del Mobile 2017 in Milan
UNDAE, derived from Latin for ´wave´, relates to the dynamic shapes in the cushion’s design. Its shape is a result of origami principles applied to flexible yet strong materials, such as leather, which gives an original voluminous pattern symbolising a seamless sea.
ADUNA, literally ‘towards one’, is a composition of two elements with a contrast in texture but complementarity in color. The harmonious duality is reinforced by the leather strip that connects both sides, creating a balanced unity.
The leather has a central role in the design because of its material properties as well as its origins. Incorporating leftover pieces generated during the furniture upholstery process, this cushion design gives a new purpose to high-quality waste material. It takes a new direction of creative processes based on a more mindful and sustainable use of resources.
